APA. We had this activity that made us acquainted with the APA style of citation.Other than that, nothing much happened. During our class, we were divided into 4 groups and had to write the correct format of the resources in APA.Every one were shouting and doing things quickly because the activity was time bound. Our teacher was strict in giving the grades.
She assigned us a blogging task and that is to comment on the reactions posted by our classmates or anyone who is a student of our teacher.
I have to be fast and direct for quizzes await me today.

Avatar: Icon of racism?

Many reviews have been made critiquing Avatar as a movie that has racism issues in it. Most people agree to this but some think that it's just a movie and we shouldn't take it too seriously. But the question that is flying around is "Is Avatar and everything about it racist?"
The movie takes place in a distant moon named Pandora. Pretty much like the Earth, this planet is inhabited by 10-feet bluish humanoids called Na'Vis. They lived in their planets with peace and the thought of that everything is connected by an energy. They are suddenly invaded by humans looking for minerals to mine and to use for personal reasons. With technological advantages, the humans cultured their own natives and controlled them using impulses by the brain and they called it Avatars thus the title of the movie. They used it to communicate with the inhabitants and tried to negotiate with them to relocate their clan in another place because they were living in the largest deposit of the rock the humans want. Having found no diplomatic solutions, the humans resorted to brutal force.
One can say that it is a racist film if they would really take its meaning deep.
The movie revolves around an ex-marine who controls an avatar and learns the culture and the ways of the natives, falling in love with a Na'vi and then switching sides and fought against the humans. This theme has been used by many movies like Pocahontas; a white guy leads the natives into victory. But do this natives need a white guy to be able to defend themselves? Why not make a movie that shows colored people defending and winning without any outside help? Also, the movie shows how humans are willing to invade a nation in order for the advancement of their own interests. The natives in the movie somehow resembled African people having bows and arrows with poisoned tips being oppressed by foreign invaders.
On the other hand, one can conclude that it is just a movie and nothing more. It may not be racist for some reasons. The Sully character and with some of his colleagues switched sides and helped protect the Na'vi thus having respect for the natives. Cameron, the director and writer of Avatar, said that "the film asks us to open our eyes and truly see others, respecting them even though they are different, in the hope that we may find a way to prevent conflict and live more harmoniously on this world." which is true. And the actors who portrayed could be Asian, Hispanic or black. It just so happened that the actor was white. What if the soldiers were robots.Would it make any difference?
The choice is up to you. Your opinion on the film depends on your beliefs and the things you know. In the end, the natives survived the invasion and rightfully defended their planet. Racism or not it will always remind us of the struggles and hardships that one nation must face and survive in order to live freely and protect the things they believe in.

Learning Blog

We thought she'd never come but she did.Our teacher has this trick of making us feel that there is no class but she would actually come and give us activities to do. She assigned us our new blogging task and it's all about commenting on a subject or event. She did this sort of example and she talked about multilingual something. The thought was that the local language should be taught first before other international dialects. You could see in the way she[teacher] speaks that she was a debater back then or had a background in extemporaneous speech. I learned from a reliable source that our teacher was radio DJ back in the days.WOW. No wonder she spoke so good. Anyways, I'm going to make my blogging task now. Hope I make it in time.

Exams...

The week started off normally. There was nothing new in the scene except for the fact that we were going to have our preliminary exams this week. Our teacher had the time to refresh our memory and did a sort of review of the past lessons to prepare us for our exam.
We did this activity that required us to choose a topic and make a thesis statement. The ones that we are going to formulate will be the final topic for our term paper. I decided to talk about music but it had to be in line with my course so I chose electronic music as my topic.
I was worried on the day of the exam. Having the thought of a ten-page test is quiet frightening for I have not prepared well. My fear was gone when I learned that it was long because of the selections to read.
I found the test interesting. I couldn't say it was easy nor hard but one thing is for sure that my grade will depend on the outcome of the test.

A SHOW to REMEMBER (descriptive)

It was a day like no other. Although I started my day normally, I knew that it would end as I dreamed it would be.I had to get home before 5:00 PM so that I can be on time for the most-awaited part of my day. I did all that I could. When I arrived, they saw a sweaty, out-of-breath child with the look on his eyes that meant "Can't wait." I prepared myself for the travel. I was like the Flash for I was running everywhere and doing things so quick that I had to wait for thirty, long minutes before we could go. The trip to get there was excruciating and long but it didn't matter for at the end of the trail was my treasure. We went in to the stadium after waiting in line for almost eternity. The place was packed with spectators with the same thoughts in mind - "This is it." The place was so full with people that you would have the feeling that the place would collapse. I had to stick with the group because if I make a wrong turn, I would lose myself in the vast ocean of strangers.
The stage is set. Lights were blinking on and off like a lightning signaling that a storm of musical notes and melodies would pour. The roar of the crowd out-powered that of a screaming jet. My heart was racing at the speed of light as the front man was going out into the perfect stage of another of their great performance. The energy of Bamboo was oozing that we were energized and started jumping with their songs. The crowd again roared their excitement. It was a good thing that their sound equipments were at full settings because the shout of the crowd deafen the music of the band. The concert was so cool. The flame and smoke machines added the sort of spice to the concert. I couldn't describe it in words. To have a good view of the concert was to be there at person. The vocalist ignited the concert with his adlibs and his powerful vocals. The drummer gave everyone the jaw-drop. He was just hitting everything that his hands could reach and yet still created that sweet beating of the drums that makes you want to get up and dance. The bass guitar added more impact and thickness to the songs. With every song, the crowd would sing along as if they were part of the band. The whole concert was a bang. It was perfect from the performers to the crew. It was a perfect mixture of decibels melodies and notes. Anyone that would watch their concert will have the same feeling that I have. It was a concert to remember indeed. Months have passed and I'm still talking about the concert; how the crowd reacted and joined and the kinetic energy of the performer that invited you to join in.
You have to be there to really experience what words could not describe. It is more than just auditory and visual satisfaction but also the want of watching one of their concerts fulfilled. Live on Pinoy Rock Music.\w/

Learning Blog

A new year starts as we continue our pursuit of honing our minds in our four-walled room. Nothing changed except for our spirit to learn that has grown to its full potentials.
There wouldn't be any learning if we can't experience it first hand. Our teacher gave us a blogging task about descriptive writing. She gave some pointers on what to do to do it correctly.
Wehad an activity on correcting run-on sentences which was done in pairs. She commented on me because I was having the same partner for like last year so I had to find another one. Anyways, the activity still continued. During that session, I learned new words for describing.I also learned to use vivid words to clearly describe something or an object. Right now, I am still thinking on a topic to write on.

Busiest Christmas ever

Ever since I could remember, Christmas was nothing but vacation, gifts and more vacation. I never realized that there was more to it. I'd say that it was the second best Christmas. The best Christmas was when my first niece was born. Anyways, I really felt the spirit of Christmas this year. I woke up 3 in the morning everyday to attend the mass and it was the first time that I completed it. I also served in the mass as a knight of the altar and also sang in the choir. It was unusual for me to wake up early in the morning but I had this drive that made me do so.
During Noche Buena, all of us gathered for a simple and wonderful meal. I slept really late and got my self a headache. It was nice spending my Christmas with my family. Though simple, it was memorable.
A vacation is not complete without a movie marathon. We watched mostly cartoons and the ones that I liked was UP and WALL-E both from Walt Disney. It has a touching story and you could relate to it whether you are a child or a child in heart.
My New Year was noisy as expected and it has been that way as I can remember. There were some who had fireworks and lit them up in the streets. Mixtures of colors made it really cool to watch.
I am looking forward to this year that I change my evil ways and turn them into good ones.
